After forty years, finally, Tabacos Caldera La Palma is proud of offering the smoker one of the best cigars in the world. We recover a kind of old tobacco variety which used to be grown during the 60s on La Palma and which has made cigars from La Palma famous.
So, in 1999 some tobacco varieties such as Habana Bocoy, H10 or Pelo de Oro started to be grown again on La Palma . Normally, these varieties are more delicate, in the sense that they need more care and they produce less. However, they are unrivalled for their flavour and quality. The method of cultivation we follow to grow this tobacco is known as "cultivo integrado", that is, we make use of ecological products and little nitrogen when fertilizing.
We began by planting 500 plants. We obtained the seeds from a plant which was growing wildly, close to our old dry-shred. And it turned out to be a Habana Bocoy.
In 2001 we planted 15,000 plants. In 2002, in an attempt to improve the quality, we just planted 10,000 plants.
